Wedding Rehearsals

I get asked often whether a wedding rehearsal is needed, and my answer? It depends. If a couple is planning a large ceremony with a lot of moving parts, i.e., a reception center or unfamiliar building, bridesmaids/groomsmen, flower girl, ring bearer, music, multiple songs, father of the bride, and a congregation, then it makes sense to do a couple walk throughs to make sure everyone is on the same page. As an experienced non-denominational officiant, I've performed more than 150 wedding ceremonies in the last couple of years, and can say without a doubt, rehearsals help. Small weddings or even elopements, that's probably overkill, but no one ever said "we practiced too much" for a larger wedding ceremony.
