The Waiting Officiant

As a non-denominational minister and professional wedding officiant, I'm usually the first to the alter at a wedding ceremony. "Ladies and gentlemen, the Bride and Groom are grateful for your love and support, if you can take a seat and silence your cell phones, the wedding party will join us shortly." Sometimes though the waiting game can be a little anxiety-filled. This wedding, for example, I waited 10 minutes at the alter for the Groom to join me, then we waited another full song for the wedding processional to begin. And there's no right or wrong way to do that. A wedding ceremony is a completely unique situation, it can be an hour long or five minutes, all depending on what the couple envision for their moment. My job is to always facilitate and deliver a meaningful service, and if they want me to wait before I do it, that's their call. Ha.
