Sometimes I'll have months to prepare, others just a few days or even hours. As a non-denominational minister and professional wedding officiant, I see the whole gamut. For this wedding ceremony, the original wedding officiant (an uncle) had to cancel because of work commitments, so father of the bride contacted me directly to check my availability and ultimately to ask me to officiate his daughter's wedding ceremony. I was very familiar with the venue, was able to identify some key details in the wedding rehearsal the day before, and in the end we had a beautiful service for everyone involved. That's the gig. If the starting wedding officiant goes down, then I am more than happy to come out of the wedding officiant bullpen.
