As a non-denominational and professional wedding officiant, I officiate wedding ceremonies under a lot of circumstances, but almost universally, the most heartfelt and authentic weddings are the ones where best friends are marrying each other. Young brides and grooms think they know what that is, everyone thinks they know what friendship and commitment and dedication are really about, but marriage is the place where that's really tested. This ceremony, in the front room of their SugarHouse home, just a couple friends as witnesses, and a best friends formalizing what had already been unspoken for a very long time.
